Fifteen people have died in a fire at a nightclub in the tourist city of Pattaya in eastern Thailand, an aid organization reported on Saturday.
The fire broke out on Thursday evening at the nightclub “Mounten Bay” near the tourist area of Pattaya, about 180 km from the capital Bangkok.
One man died of his injuries, bringing the death toll to 15, including 11 men and four women, according to local organization “Swang Rojanathmasatan” on Saturday.
About 40 people were also injured in the accident, including more than 10 who were seriously injured.
The majority of the victims are between the ages of 17 and 49 and are believed to be Thais. Their bodies were found at the entrance to the nightclub and at the retirement home, according to the same source, with serious injuries.
The paramedics revealed in a statement that the layer covering the walls to isolate the noise inside the club from the outside contributed to the spread of the fire and made the work of the firefighters more difficult.
Police are investigating based on information that the club’s doors were closed when the fire broke out.
