Cattle run loose on North Carolina highway after tractor-trailer overturns

An overturned tractor-trailer unloaded several cattle on a North Carolina highway on Thursday morning, April 21, police said. Winston-Salem Police said about 10 cattle were loose on U.S. Route 52 northbound off Interstate 40. The department said “extreme caution as cows roam and accidents have been reported.” Winston-Salem Fire Battalion Chief Joe Ramsey told local media that the trailer was carrying about 80 cows. Video shared by the Winston-Salem PD shows officers from “multiple agencies,” including the Piedmont Emergency Animal Services, working Thursday morning to move the cows safely off the highway. Police said they expected the highway to be closed for a few hours. Credit: Winston-Salem Police Department via Storyful
