Cristiano Ronaldo hints at Manchester United’s future and breaks silence on Erik ten Hag

Cristiano Ronaldo insists he is still happy at Manchester United and looking forward to working under new manager Erik ten Hag.

United great Ronaldo, 37, has scored 24 goals in his first season back with the club after 12 years and could receive his fourth Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award on Saturday.

There were doubts about Ronaldo’s future after United failed to qualify for the Champions League, a competition in which Ronaldo has played for 19 consecutive seasons and has won five times. Ronaldo is under contract with United until next year, with an option for another year.

However, in a video released by United, Ronaldo outlined his happiness and stressed that Ten Hag needs time to make the necessary changes to make United a credible force again.

“I know that he has done a fantastic job for Ajax and that he is an experienced coach, but we have to give him time and things have to change the way he wants.” said Ronaldo.

“Of course I hope we are successful because if you are successful, all of Manchester will be successful too. So I wish him the best.”

“We are happy and excited, not only the players but also the supporters. I wish him the best and let’s believe that we will win trophies next year.”

“Obviously I was happy to be back at a club that really boosted my career, so it was incredible. The feeling when I came back, it was nice to feel the supporters, the happiness of them was great. I was and still am very happy to be here.

“And what I have to say to the fans is that they are great, even if you have lost matches, they always support us, they are always with us, the supporters are always in my heart and they are the people we all have to respect because they are always on our side.

“For me the most important thing is to try to win the games and win a championship or a cup, but I believe Manchester will be where they belong.

“Like I said before, sometimes it takes time, but I still believe.”
