Father and son killed in crash in Mendon that left car in pond

Authorities say a man and his son are dead after the car they were driving crashed into another vehicle and ended up in a pond in central Massachusetts. That truck remained at the scene until around 4:45 a.m. Saturday. It is not known whether the driver of the second vehicle involved in the accident will be prosecuted. NewsCenter 5 learned that the truck driver was taken to Milford Hospital for treatment for minor injuries. The accident is being investigated by the Mendon Police Department, the State Police Department and state police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office. The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office said the crash happened at about 10:30 p.m. Friday on Uxbridge Road, also known as Route 16, in Mendon.

The collision took place near Alicante Restaurant & Lounge and one of the vehicles involved subsequently crashed into the Nipmuc pond. The two occupants of that vehicle did not survive, the OM said.

Alicante Restaurant & Lounge was closed on Saturday out of respect for the two deceased employees, but reopened on Sunday at noon for Mother’s Day.
