Former Socceroo applauds Arnold for his ‘brave decision’ to turn down Ryan

Former Socceroo Mark Bosnich says head coach Graham Arnold replacing Matthew Ryan with Andrew Redmayne for the penalty shootout against Peru was “one of the bravest management decisions I’ve ever seen from an Australian manager”.

The Socceroos defeated Peru on penalties to secure a place in the 2022 World Cup after Andrew Redmayne scored the game-winning save.

“A special word must go out to Graham Arnold,” he told Sky News presenter Andrew Bolt.

“He had his critics, myself included, towards the end of the qualifying campaign… but to make such a brave decision to beat arguably your best player in Mat Ryan and captain of the team.

“It was truly one of the bravest management decisions I’ve ever seen from an Australian manager.”
