Germany funds army update to face Russian threat

Chancellor Olaf Scholz pledged 100 billion euros to rearm German army immediately after Russia invaded Ukraine

The German parliament on Friday voted in favor of a constitutional amendment to create a 100 billion euro ($107 billion) fund to bolster its military defenses in the face of an emboldened Russia.

Therefore, the government needed the support of the conservative opposition to get the two-thirds majority in parliament needed to pass the constitutional amendment.
