Chancellor Olaf Scholz pledged 100 billion euros to rearm German army right after Russia invaded Ukraine
The German parliament on Friday voted in favor of a constitutional amendment to create a 100 billion euro ($107 billion) fund to bolster its military defenses in the face of an emboldened Russia.
Therefore, the government needed the support of the conservative opposition to get the two-thirds majority in parliament needed to pass the constitutional amendment.
