DENVER (KDVR) — Gas prices continue to rise across the country. The national average for a gallon of regular fuel is now $4.91.
If you’re looking for lighting at the pump, there are some free apps you can download to help.
The Gas Buddy app offers several resources to save money. After you download the app, you can order your free GasBack card. It just needs to be linked to a personal bank account. You must also provide your driver’s license details to verify your identity.
“GasBack is free money for gas earned from everyday purchases. Earning GasBack is easy and is applied automatically at the pump at gas stations across the country,” Gas Buddy said.
Once you have the GasBack card, you can use it to pay for gas at the pump. The card will also save you up to $0.25 a gallon, according to Gas Buddy.
The app also allows you to find the cheapest gas price wherever you are. You can also convert your daily purchases into free gas by shopping in the app.
Another free app that can help you save money at the pump is Upside.
“You pay as you normally do (by credit or debit card) and the money is immediately refunded to your Upside account. There is no limit to how much you can earn – Upside even works with other coupons, discounts and loyalty programs!” Top explained.
The app says you can save up to $0.25 per gallon.
Here’s how it works, according to Upside:
- Claim your offer: Find local deals on everything from gas prices to restaurants and everything in between.
- Pay as usual: Shop as you would at favorite spots in the city and pay with a credit or debit card.
- Check In: Check in to log in your purchase and get going. (If check-in isn’t available, just take a photo of your receipt and upload it to the app.)
- Earn money back: Earn money back and withdraw whenever you want via PayPal, e-gift card or directly to your bank account.
Upside said you can get cash backs at more than 45,000 locations across the country.
Many gas stations, such as Exxon, Shell, and Phillips 66, offer fuel rewards when you use their apps. There are also supermarket stories that offer discounts on fuel based on the amount of money you spend in a store.
Costco and Sam’s Club also offer their members discounted gas prices. An annual membership to Costco starts at $60. An annual membership to Sam’s Club starts at $45.
