Labor housing policy gives government ‘snares for everyone’s personal investment’

Liberal Senator Amanda Stoker says Labor’s ‘Help to Buy’ plan is ‘really dangerous’.

Labor announced a new equity-sharing initiative at the launch of the party’s campaign on Sunday, which would give eligible participants a commonwealth contribution of up to 40 percent toward the purchase of a new home and 30 percent toward an existing one. House.

“What we know, from hundreds of years of observing the way different governments work, is that governments don’t do very well in parts of the community that are better managed by the market,” Ms Stoker said.

“They are better able to adapt to local conditions, they are better able to meet the needs of the wide range of different things that people in our community are looking for.

“The idea that people might be obligated to a government for their most basic form of financial security – which is their own home – is a bit dangerous.

“Making sure that the government is in control of everyone’s personal investment is, I think, really worrying.”
