LUSAIL, Qatar — Lionel Messi scored another crucial goal for Argentina in a 2-0 win over Mexico on Saturday, fueling the team’s World Cup chances.

Messi took a ball from Angel Di Maria’s pass across the area and fired a low shot from 25 yards into the bottom corner in the 64th minute.

He ran to the Argentine fans with outstretched arms before being harassed by his jubilant teammates. He looked emotional as he grabbed his sweater and shook it before blowing a kiss to the audience.

Substitute Enzo Fernandez scored a second goal in the 87th minute.

Argentina bounced back from a shock 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia in the opening game. The team is second in Group C ahead of its final game against Poland on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old Messi will probably play in his last World Cup, the only major title still missing from his collection.
