Mansfield 1 – 0 Tranmere

Mansfield took their first points of the season after a combative 1-0 win over Tranmere in League One as Riley Harbottle’s header in the second half proved to be the difference in a game with few clear chances.

Rovers came close to scoring in the 30th minute via Kane Hemmings, before John-Joe O’Toole got a shot off the line.

Paul Lewis missed a great chance to equalize when he put a shot straight at the keeper in the final phase.

Tranmere waved off early penalties as Elliott Nevitt went down under pressure.

Hiram Boateng had saved a shot after 11 minutes before Reece pierced McAlear.

Christy Pym saved from Hemmings after a bad back pass with 30 minutes left.

O’Toole had an attempt by Hemmings wiped off the line five minutes before half time.

Mansfield broke the deadlock when Harbottle headed home on a 60-minute corner from Boateng.

Pym made a good fingertip save to keep Ethan Bristow’s header out.

Lewis found space, but with five minutes to go, he could only tamely fire at Pym.
