KENTWOOD, Mich. (AP) — A man who strangled his pregnant wife, a popular teacher in the Grand Rapids area, was sentenced Thursday to at least 33 years in prison.
“You deliberately killed her,” Kent County Judge Mark Trusock said. “There is simply no excuse or justification for this brutal and senseless murder. There’s nothing at all.”

Amber Guichelaar, 32, was murdered in her Kentwood home in November 2020. She was a local teacher and mother of two.
Richard Guichelaar, 36, pleaded guilty to first degree murder in February.

He told the judge he couldn’t find the words to express his “sadness, regret and regret” for what happened.
“My wife was a great person, a great mother, daughter and so many other things,” said Guichelaar.
After 33 years in prison, he is eligible for parole.
