Mother arrested after infant, toddler found dead in Yuba County

A 26-year-old mother was arrested for killing her two young children in Yuba County on Thursday, authorities said.Deputies received a call from the children’s father around 11:45 am, the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department said in a release. The reported drowning happened at a Linda home in the 6100 block of Sunshine Avenue. The father told investigators he was home for lunch when his wife told him she had hurt the children.When deputies arrived, they found the two boys who were 5 months old and 2.5 years old in a bathtub full of water and started life-saving measures . Both children were declared dead at the scene. Courtney Williams was arrested at the home just before noon, authorities said.“The tragic loss of 5-month-old Holden and his 2-and-a-half-year old brother Ronin reverberates throughout our department and into the community,” said Yuba County Sheriff Wendell Anderson. “There are no words to adequately describe the sadness we feel for the family at this time.” Investigators believe the apparent drowning of the children was intentional.One neighbor shared a video with KCRA 3, showing who she said was Williams getting arrested by deputies Thursday. Neighbors told KCRA 3 they are shocked and saddened to see something so tragic happen in their community. Heather Ronson lives right across the street from Williams, and she said she saw deputies performing CPR on the children. Her kids would sometimes play with Ronin, and Ronson said he would always greet her with a smile.“He’s just a little tiny guy, and he’s got brown hair, and his bright red little face, and his little boots on, and out here riding his little bike. ‘Hi, hi,’ over the fence,” Ronson said. “Just a sweet little boy, and the fact that I’m never going to him again is heartbreaking.” Neighbors told KCRA 3 that Williams often stayed to herself, but added that this terrible tragedy was still unexpected. They have many lingering questions.“How? why? I could never imagine doing something like this to my kids. They’re my entire world,” a neighbor named Adrianna said.Although what exactly led up to the apparent drownings is still unknown, some say they know being a parent can be overwhelming.“I feel like she should have reached out for help if she was struggling,” Adrianna said.Ronson told KCRA 3 that she felt the same way.“I just wish she would have come out and asked for help,” Ronson said. I would have helped her. I would have done anything to help her.”The sheriff’s department said Williams is expected to be booked for homicide but other charges are possible.Authorities are investigating.
