Motorcyclist killed after collision with MTS bus

CHULA VISTA, Calif. — A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday after a collision with a Metropolitan Transit System bus, Chula Vista police said.

At about 10:25 p.m., CVPD received several 911 calls reporting a crash between a motorcycle and an MTS transit bus near the intersection of Third Avenue and Orange Avenue in Chula Vista, the department said in a press release.

On arrival, the first responders did not find the motorcyclist and tried to provide assistance. The 21-year-old man eventually died at the scene of the accident, police said.

Witnesses reported that the motorcyclist was seen driving at high speed before going through a red light and hitting the side of the bus, CVPD said. No one on the bus was injured.

The bus driver was examined at the scene and police said he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Results to determine whether the motorcyclist was under the influence of drugs or alcohol are still pending.

The motorcyclist’s identity has not been made public, pending reports from family members.
