Police accuse Maidstone man of string of offences

The Victoria Police air wing unit assisted the Maribyrnong Vehicle Crime Unit in the arrest of a Maidstone man after he was seen in an allegedly stolen car.

The man was wanted for allegedly driving skills, theft and offenses and violating a court order, according to a statement from the Victoria Police Department, and was seen in a supposedly stolen Hyundai i30 in Maidstone around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11.

Police first spotted the vehicle on Ballarat Road in Maidstone and the air wing unit then tracked down a number of nearby suburbs including Keilor East, Keilor Park and Avondale Heights.

Police then deployed stop poles on Keilor Park Drive in Keilor East before the vehicle came to a stop at Bolton Court in Avondale Heights around 11:30 am.

Police claimed the male driver and the car’s sole occupant fled on foot, but were quickly arrested meters away from the vehicle.

According to a further statement, police charged a 34-year-old Maidstone man with handling stolen goods, committing a criminal offense while on bail, failing to stop under police direction, driving with a disqualification, theft, theft of a motor vehicle and burglary.

Police presented the man directly to the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday, May 11.
