Rajapaksa opts for break from ODI cricket as Sri Lanka announce selection for Afghanistan series

Colombo [Sri Lanka]Nov. 25 (ANI): Explosive batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa has withdrawn from Afghanistan series, requesting a rest from ODIs after Sri Lanka announced the squad.

For the three-game series against Afghanistan, Sri Lanka initially selected a squad of 16 players. However, Bhanuka Rajapaksa asked shortly after the announcement to be cut from the squad as he wants to take a sabbatical from the Over-50s format.

Accordingly, Sri Lanka Cricket has accepted his request.

In the side, Orthodox left-handed bowler Dunith Wellalage retains his place after making an impressive debut against Australia earlier this year, where he took 9 wickets in five games, at an average of 22.33. Dananjaya Lakshan, who played his last international match almost a year ago, gets another chance.

The series kicks off on November 25 with all three ODIs being played in Kandy with crucial Cricket World Cup Super League points on the line.
