If your trip requires a plane ticket at the end of the summer or fall, a Southwest Airlines flash sale this week could save you money.

The low-cost, Dallas-based airline is offering a 40 percent discount on select flights purchased Tuesday through Thursday for travel between Aug. 16 and Nov. 5. The trip must be booked by 11:59 PM CDT on Thursday.

The deal is valid for select continental US and continental US to/from Hawaii; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and international flights. Customers can choose between Wanna Get Away, Wanna Get Away Plus, Anytime and Business Select fares for one-way or round-trip. However, the number of places and days is limited.

“We are excited to offer our customers a substantial discount on our low fares for flights from late summer through fall,” said Bill Tierney, Southwest Airlines vice president of marketing and digital experience, in a statement. “This discount on Southwest flights will make traveling more affordable and easier for customers, giving them a great low fare, along with two free checked bags and no change or cancellation fees. All that combined with our legendary hospitality is a great deal.”

In May, the airline introduced its newest fare category, Wanna Get Away Plus, which allows for transferable flight credits, allowing customers to transfer an eligible unused flight credit to another traveler for future use.

Travelers must use the promo code FALL40 when purchasing the tickets on Southwest.com and the discount is only valid on new reservations.

Southwest and other airlines canceled hundreds of flights this summer due to understaffing.
