78 Kidsstone Pde, Mansfield, is a log cabin imported from Finland.

A log cabin imported from Finland by a champion downhill skier embraces its Nordic heritage with a sauna and exposed timber.

The Victorian High Country property at 78 Kidston Pde, Mansfield, has been listed with a $1.3m-$1.4m price guide.

Its journey to Australia puts it in rare company, having arrived via “two and a half shipping containers” from the Honka company in Europe, which manufactures log houses.

But after a long journey, it took only eight days to assemble.

Owners Stana and Ivan Pacak, the latter a former international downhill slalom skier who became race director of the Mt Buller Ski Club, are selling to relocate interstate.

“I suppose every visitor who comes through the front door first of all notices the unique smell of timber, Nordic pine,” Mr Pacak said.

A beautiful setting, within walking distance of the nearest golf club and about a 40-minute drive to Mount Buller.

The centrepiece of the lounge room is a “stunning” three-sided designer fireplace imported from Slovakia, through the Pacaks’ business Maison Fireplaces.

But it is mainly for ambience, thanks to the residence’s hydronic floor heating and cooling system, which regulates its temperature and can be operated using a phone app.

Mr Pacak said the home’s European triple-glazed windows were not usually available in Australia.

The kitchen features an integrated fridge and freezer, stone benchtops and Miele appliances.

A sauna to get steamed up about.

While the sauna with views to the gardens truly shines in the winter months, floor-to-ceiling windows in the main living area and bedrooms offer as impressive a vista in the summer.

The house’s north-facing open-plan living space opens out on to a covered, heated alfresco entertaining area with an outdoor Neston Martin fireplace.

McGrath Mansfield principal Kate McDougall said the 7300sq m property was unusually large for the Mansfield township.

Stone benchtops are one of the kitchen’s features.

“It’s attracted a lot of attention,” Ms McDougall said.

“It’s certainly a unique home, it’s a year-round home, not just a winter one.

“It’s very private too – there are 1.8 acres of beautifully planted, lovely deciduous trees, including silver birch and magnolias.”

The house is about a 40-minute drive from Mt Buller and 300m from Mansfield Golf Club.
