A masterclass from Shai Bolton has brought Richmond to the top eight after a 71-109 win over a disappointing Port Adelaide.
The win puts them two points ahead of St Kilda and comfortably clear on percentage as the season comes to its peak with just two rounds to go.
A thoroughly entertaining first term saw both sides enjoy momentum as a goal from Shai Bolton in the quarter helped Richmond to a nine point lead.
This continued into the second quarter as the Power fought hard in front of a loud home crowd to fall eight points behind thanks to another buzzer-beater goal for Bolton.
The game started after half-time when the Tigers kicked away impressively with seven goals to three in the third term, a 34-point lead that was ultimately too much for the Power to win.
Multiple Tigers had a day out, headlined by Bolton (four goals, 17 goals), sole captain of the night Toby Nankervis (29 disposals, 42 hit-outs), former captain Trent Cotchin (32 goals, six eliminations), Tom Lynch (four goals, 16 disposals) and Dion Prestia (32 touches, 10 clearances) as the yellows and blacks put together a much-needed four-quarter effort symbolic of their premiership years.
Port would be supported by the performances of Zak Butters (28 strokes, eight tackles), Ollie Wines (32 strokes, six tackles), Dan Houston (24 strokes, 497 meters won) and Miles Bergman (one goal, 21 disposals) in what ended up being a bad night for Ken Hinkley’s men.
The Tigers will be sweating on Nick Vlaustin’s health ahead of the finals, as the 28-year-old fell with a rib injury and visible pain.
Port Adelaide will face Essendon next week at Marvel Stadium, where the Tigers host Hawthorn in the MCG for Essendon in the final round and would be favorites for both encounters.
