INCREASED RISK OF HEAT DISEASES

Environment Canada warns residents that the risks of heat are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and those who work or exercise outside the home.

“Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity is expected to increase the risk of heat illness, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion,” the agency says.

They recommend drinking plenty of water, contacting family and friends, never leaving people or pets in vehicles, and taking frequent breaks when working or exercising outside the home.
