SPANAWAY, Wash. — The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office has warned the public of “heavy police activity” in Spanaway after two deputies were shot on Tuesday.
Around noon, there was a massive law enforcement response, as officers, deputies and medics from multiple agencies responded.
According to Pierce County’s Sargent Darren Moss, during a planned SWAT operation Tuesday morning, shots were fired and two deputies were shot.
According to The News Tribune, the SWAT team tried to arrest someone for investigation of a felony assault.
According to Pierce County Sheriff’s Ed Troyer, the suspect was described as a “three strikes guy.”
Both deputies were rushed to hospitals.
According to Moss, one of the deputies is in “grave” condition.
Deputies are waiting to notify family before releasing more information.
The other deputy is in surgery and is expected to survive.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said the suspect was dead.
The public is asked to avoid the area in the 19000 block of Pacific Avenue South.
