‘Unsavory’ off-field scandal rocks Gold Coast cricket grand final

An independent commission is to investigate the allegations on the eve of the Kookaburra Cup first-grade grand final between Runaway Bay and Surfers Paradise at Sam Loxton Oval.Cricket Gold Coast senior president Ryan Kettle confirmed charges had been laid, but said the association’s board would not be involved unless there was a dispute of facts.“This has gone through a process put in place by Cricket Gold Coast and we cannot comment too much at this stage until the matter is resolved,” Kettle said.“We have two commissioners who are dealing with the incident. They have passed on the chargers to the player and coach and then it is up to them to agree to the terms that have been given or use their right to dispute it.“If they dispute it then the Cricket Gold Coast board will become involved. ”A decision is expected to be made before the weekend’s two-day decider.
