BC Liberal leader Kevin Falcon stands ready to serve in the legislature after winning the Vancouver-Quilchena by-election on Saturday.
While the results won’t be official until May 4, the first count showed Falcon had a commanding lead. He got just 59 percent of the vote — about twice as much as the second-place candidate. Jeanette Ashe of the BC NDP finished with just over 24 percent.
The Vancouver-Quilchena seat became vacant when former BC Liberal leader Andrew Wilkinson resigned after the NDP secured a majority in the 2020 provincial election.
Driving has been in the hands of a BC Liberals since 1991 and is considered one of the safest for the BC Liberals. It is common for a seated MLA to offer their seat to a leader who currently has no driving experience.
