Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) encourages Victorians, including those in Wyndham, to test their safety switches at least once a year to make sure they work.
Electrical fires can be caused by aging, deterioration and faulty electrical installations or equipment, and safety switches provide additional protection to homes by detecting faults and cutting power immediately before a fire or electrocution can occur.
“Testing your home’s safety switches is easy to do. It doesn’t matter if you own or rent your home, you need to make sure your safety switches are working,” said ESV Commissioner and Chairman Marnie Williams.
“It’s a simple check that could potentially save your life, the lives of your loved ones, and your property.”
ESV test. reset. To protect. campaign encourages people to do a simple safety switch test once a year to protect themselves, their families and their property.
Safety switches can be found in most household switchboards, they have a small button with the word ‘test’ on it and once pressed, it cuts power to areas of the property connected to the safety switch.
If the switch does not activate, it is faulty and will not protect you. If this happens, contact a licensed electrician immediately.
