Just before the federal election concierge period began, Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra was added to the Commonwealth Heritage List.

Federal Environment Secretary Sussan Ley has approved the proposal to add the 6,640 acres of Lake Burley Griffin, the islands and adjacent Commonwealth lands, and the Commonwealth Bridges and Kings Avenue to the list.

The major change in the lake’s heritage status has been more than a decade in the making.

National Capital Authority CEO Sally Barnes spoke with ABC Radio Canberra’s Lish Fejer about what it means for future development around Lake Burley Griffin.
