Economic crisis in Pakistan

In 2022 there was political unrest, an economic crisis and catastrophic flooding in Pakistan. Economically, the country has faced debilitating inflation, a depreciating currency and dangerously low foreign reserves. As Pakistan tries to deal with these challenges in a turbulent moment, important questions arise about the long-term causes of these problems, how political instability causes them and what economic policies Pakistan should pursue to deal with its difficulties.

On February 1, the Center for Middle East Policy in Brookings will host an event to discuss the deep roots of Pakistan’s economic challenges and the future of its economy.
