Ardeer road users are encouraged to avoid level crossing works.
VicRoads advises that Forrest Street in Ardeer will be closed on Wednesday May 18th until 5am between Fitzgerald Road and Holmes Street.
Drivers and road users are advised to use Ballarat Road, Anderson Road and Station Road instead, or Boundary Road to the south.
The works are part of a major project to remove the level crossing from Fitzgerald Road by building a road bridge over the railway.
The Fitzgerald Road crosswalk will be removed along with Robinsons Road and Mt Derrimut Road on the Geelong and Ballarat lines to ease network congestion.
The barriers at Deer Park and Ardeer can be closed for up to 45 percent of the morning rush, when up to 37 trains pass through the intersections.
Current network plans mean more trains will run on the Geelong and Ballarat lines, leading to more boom port downtime.
Other recent works include the installation of barriers and drainage, the completion of signaling works and the painting of the road bridge.
The project will be accelerated to be completed before 2023.
