Toronto is getting clear skies and warm weather this week, according to meteorologist Daniel Liota.
Environment Canada forecasts Toronto will see sunny skies Monday through Friday and temperatures in the city could rise above 20C from Tuesday. Environment Canada also forecasts a maximum temperature of 25°C on Thursday, the hottest day of the year so far.
“When I have some time, I’m really looking forward to enjoying the sun,” Liota said. “Maybe start gardening.”
The average temperature at Pearson Airport at this time of year is about 17 C, Liota said. He said warmer-than-average weather this week was a regular part of the highs and lows of Toronto’s spring weather patterns.
Liota also said parts of the city near Lake Lake Ontario would be noticeably cooler.
“Lake Ontario is still a little cool after this winter,” Liota said. “There will be a big difference whether you’re downtown or on the water, compared to up north in New Market or the York area.”
Liota said the sun would be strong all week and Environment Canada predicts a “very high” UV ray index on Monday.
“While it lasts, it will be the best weather we’ve had so far this spring,” Liota said.
“Go outside, enjoy and don’t forget the sunscreen.”
