SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. — A fatal accident has shut down Interstate 70 eastbound between Silverthorne and the Eisenhower Tunnel, highway and law enforcement authorities said.

“The call came in at 12:03 a.m.,” Colorado State Patrol Master Trooper Gary Cutler said. “One confirmed fatal match. The passenger was in a box truck.”

The crash was between a semi-truck and a box truck, he said, and the two drivers refused medical treatment.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.

Alternative routes are open on US Highway 6 over Loveland Pass and Highway CO 9 to CO 40 and over Berthoud Pass.

More information will follow later in the afternoon.
