This special edition commemorating 55 years of AMG goes beyond just a sticker pack
Mercedes-AMG is this year celebrating its 55th anniversary of creating insane performance cars for the masses.
As part of the festivities, AMG will be launching a special edition of its A- and CLA-Class AMG models.
The CLA35 and A35 models, dubbed the ‘Edition 55’, get some special treats, such as 19-inch AMG light-alloy wheels, a fuel cap in silver chrome and gloss black trim both inside and out, as well as a set of AMG decals on each side.
The special edition will also include the AMG Aerodynamics package, which includes an AMG rear wing, enlarged front splitter and blade diffuser.
A Mercedes-Benz Australia spokesperson told: Chasing cars that there was “nothing to announce” when asked if the Edition 55 cars would drop.
A contrasting interior of black and red flows through both cars, along with other features such as an AMG Performance steering wheel with Edition 55 emblem and brushed aluminum trim.
The Edition 55 pack costs EUR 12,614 in Europe ($18,500 at the time of writing in April 2022).
What powers the A35 and CLA35 models?
Both the A35 and CLA35 models feature a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine 225 kW power and 400 Nm torque and can sprint to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds for the hatch.
This engine is not related to the M139 unit used in the more powerful A45 S also sold here in Australia.
Instead, the engine used in the 35 models is a more powerful tuned version of the engine used in the A250 range and is codenamed M260. The M260 uses a single turbocharger and has a 2.0 liter capacity.
