Senior captain Bobby Trivigno named Hockey East Player of the Year.

UMass senior captain Bobby Trivigno has been named the Hockey East Player of the Year, the league announced on Tuesday.

Trivigno is the second player in program history to capture the award, joining defenseman Cale Makar, the 2019 Hobey Baker Award winner and first-round draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche.

Trivigno finished fifth in the nation in points with 18 goals and 27 assists, all career highs in 35 games this season. Trivigno is the seventh player in UMass history to have 50 goals and 100 assists and holds the school career plus/minus record with a plus-74.

“It was a huge accomplishment,” said UMass coach Greg Carvel. “In our league especially, you can be an elite player and still not win this award.

“There was competition for this award. To me, he was the most dominant player.”

UMass will take on UMass Lowell in the Hockey East semifinals on Friday night (7:30) at the TD Garden. Northeastern, which plays UConn in the other semifinal, claimed two HE awards. First-year steward Jerry Keefe was named Coach of the Year and goalie Devon Levi was Rookie of the Year.
