Bruins ink German defender

The Bruins cast a wide net to replenish their talent pool.

The B’s announced on Tuesday that they have signed German right-wing defender Kai Wissmann, 25, to a one-year entry-level contract worth an annual NHL cap of $825,000.

The 6-foot-4, 207-pound blueliner had 4-16-20 totals with a plus-31 rating in 55 games for Eisbaren Berlin in the German Ice Hockey Federation last season. He also had a strong World Cup, making it 2-5-7 in eight games.

Whether Wissmann is a candidate for big league action remains to be seen. This will be his first season in North America. But the Bs are short of right-wing D men in their pipeline.
